The common people of Haiti are peaceful enough. They have no taste for revolutions. The fault is not with the ignorant many, but with the educated and ambitious few. Too proud to work, and not disposed to go into commerce, they make politics a business of their country. Governed neither by love nor mercy for their country, they care not into what depths she may be plunged. No president, however virtuous, wise and patriotic, ever suits them when they themselves happen to be out of power.

Is there real hope for Haiti?
Here is a question that most Haitians and people of the world have pondered, I am sure. Dreadful catastrophes, lack of infrastructure, corruption at all levels of government, and lawless acts such as, rape, violence; bribery, kidnapping, and political instability prove that the nation is in serious need of help. As of right now, those victimized by the killer hurricanes of 2008, the deadly 2010 and 2021 earthquakes of are still facing harsh living conditions. Money is scarce in the land, at least for the poor. Famine and poverty have reached record highs; we are in dangerous straits which appear to be all but insurmountable. Our situation calls for a cri de coeur from everyone.
If Haiti is the most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere, it is because she has been the most plundered country in that hemisphere and one of the most bullied nations on the face of the earth.
The current tragedy we are witnessing at the border is not an issue of immigration but that of human rights. It reminds us of the deadly Middle Passage, which is something we never which to go through again, but unfortunately, our brothers and sisters experiencing it taking long voyages, risking their lives, passing through many countries to make it here in the US. However, after all their misfortunes, they come to a place where they are rejected and treated like animals. If you forgotten about the Middle Passage, let me remind you of it:
The Middle Passage dealt with slave trades, a ghastly deal and a nightmare that devastated African life. Culture and traditions were torn asunder, as families, especially young men, were abducted. It was so named because it was the middle leg of a three-part voyage that began and ended in Europe.
Those who survived the dreadful voyages experienced even worse treatment when they arrived at Saint-Domingue. Their labor was harsh, their salary was zero, and they were treated like objects. The most precious gift that is given to every human being, choice, was taken away from them—as was their right to life itself, which was given to their evil masters, who decided sometimes by whim what to do with them.
If you’ve seen the recent stats of the unspeakable conditions in which the children, families and people of Haiti are trying to survive, you’ll no doubt be as horrified as I am. Haiti has truly become one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
Haitian Lives Matter
Don’t Haitian lives matter? I am sure it does. We have paved the way for so many nations to be free. We have set the example of what freedom should look like. During the colonial time, anyone who fled slavery after 1804 and went to Haiti was free from any form of persecution and slavery. Now Haitians need a hand from the world, would you be one that will come to their support?
