Protecting Children During Emergencies Of Covid-19

Children that experience physical or emotional harm get caught in an acute or prolonged crisis, especially when they lose their homes and everything they love. Our organization will respond to children’s most basic needs during emergencies and also, they recognize that every child is vulnerable to numerous risks. Such risks are separation from family, recruitment into armed forces, gender-based violence, sexual exploitation, psycho-social distress, physical harm.

From the first moment, we make sure to promote child protection during emergency situations and even engage with families, donors, communities or governments. We make sure that the most vulnerable children are not forgotten in the middle of chaos, especially the one of Covid19.

We Reunify Families

For Hand International Inc a key priority during an emergency situation is to reunite the separated children with their families as soon as possible. In the time of this global pandemic, we are working closely with the authorities and other international organizations to help register all the unaccompanied or separated children and to reunify them with their families. Hand International Inc has specially trained caseworkers that are extra careful to support every child’s well-being during the entire process.

We provide Support

A child’s feeling of security and hope can be affected by emergencies. Hand International Inc caseworkers are trying to build the natural ability in children to recover from an emergency situation. They also try to help caregivers to cope even during the difficult situation and offer support to their children. Hand International Inc is trying to implement child protection programs to protect vulnerable children and families that have been affected by many years of violence, conflict, and sanctions. We have created Child Friendly Spaces in many communities and schools. There, children and their families can freely talk with trained teachers, community members, and staff about their issues. If a child needs more assistance, he or she will go to a specially trained caseworker. That caseworker will listen to the child and he or she will find the services to help him or her with their problems. Hand International Inc has made a commitment to expand its child protection activities to all vulnerable children and families throughout conflict zones. These conflict zones include Haiti and here the children and families will get the support and services they need to recover from their trauma.

We Create Child Friendly Spaces

Hand International Inc has created one activity called Child Friendly Spaces to protect children during the first phase of an emergency or in other areas of long-term crisis. A Child Friendly Space can be built in any space that’s available including: under trees, in a tent or even in a courtyard. With family support and community members who volunteer to lead all the activities, children will have the chance to play together, sing and socialize with their peers. They are able to regain a sense of normalcy in those difficult times. Also, Child Friendly Spaces can keep children safe during the day while parents can focus on finding support and services in the immediate aftermath of an emergency and even gradually rebuild their lives.
